Many of you empaths and sensitives struggle with Compassion Fatigue, which impacts the overall quality of your life.
When your beautiful heart is so open and your gift of being an empath is picking up the pain and suffering of others day in and day out—often sacrificing your own needs—you begin to feel weighted down by the layers and layers of other people’s heartache, hurt, anguish, and sadness.
Here are some of the signs and symptoms of Compassion Fatigue for Empaths (based on my own experience!):
Depletion of your emotional and mental capacity to remain compassionate
Compassion replaced by numbness, irritation, resentment, and/or anger
Feeling used, sucked dry, and taken advantage of (Feeling like you are surrounded by ungrateful and hungry vampires!)
Crave isolation, silence, and alone time to “refuel” yourself
Physically exhausted and empty, and crave sweets, salty, crunchy, creamy foods, and even alcohol, smoking, taking drugs
Feeling depressed, hopeless, and powerless
Dread facing the day (work, people, activities, learning, etc.)
Difficulty concentrating, sleeping through the night, lethargy building up
Heaviness in the body, mind, and heart that keeps you from getting motivated
Sensitivity to certain foods becomes more acute
Heartburn, acid reflux, bloating, gas
Allergy symptoms increase (rashes, stuffy nose, drippy nose, cough, etc.)
Leaky Gut, meaning increased gut permeability. And this creates more sensitivity
Headaches, migraines
Indigestion (constipation, diarrhea, IBS)
TMJ, hip and lower back pain, ringing in the ear, stiffness in the body
These are just some of the signs and symptoms that many of us Empaths experience when we are having Compassion Fatigue, which can lead to full on Burnout.
